ACHIMOTA SCHOOL SPORTS DEPARTMENT

The Physical Education Department has four teachers one of whom is a service personnel. They are:

1. Mr. K. Asare
2. Mrs. Albertine Konu
3. Mr. E. Bruce-Okine Jnr.
4. Tetteh A. Okyne (National Service Personnel)

The department organizes sport competitions in which students participate and sometimes teachers as well. As much as possible these games are held on annual bases, but as much as possible, they are organized to fit the programme of the Ghana Education Service (GES). Certain events are not organized due to lack of equipment, financial constraints, etc. Swimming competitions have been put off for a while due to the above reasons. The swimming competitions aren't organized due to the break down of the pool pump.

Training of Students.
After competitions are held, students with the potential to excel in the various aspects of sport, are selected to undergo specialized training sessions, which lead to the formation of school teams. At this juncture, training is consistent and demanding. Often students selected to partake in sporting events are exempted from house duties so they can concentrate fully on their training.
Once a school team has been acquired, they are treated to the best of service from the school. They are served differently in the dining hall and provided with extra fortified meals to enable them to perform at their maximum best.

Awards
Awards are presented to deserving students of the school. Aside cups and trophies given to winning houses, certificates are also awarded to students and recently, some Akoras have also donated a few sporting goods and equipment as awards to winning houses. One such example of this happened during the girls basketball and boys football competition organized last year. Click here for results of that event.

Events Held In The School
The school organizes the following sports competitions as often as possible:

Soccer

Athletics

Cricket

Hockey Organized as and when GES competitions are held
Table Tennis Organized annually
Volleyball Organized annually

Sportsman And Sportswoman Of The Year
This is an award given to deserving students who have excelled in more than two sporting events during their stay in the school. This award is mostly given to senior students who are on their way out of the school. This award is rarely given to junior students but they are awarded with certificates to honour their hardwork and dedication. When they become seniors, they are most likely to receive this award if they excel in any two sporting events. For a list of the sportsmen and sportswomen of the past 74 years, click here.

It is important to note that new certificates are being made to replace the old outdated ones currently being used by the school.
