House Party
After much anticipation that was more heightened
after weeks of intense scrubbing, weeding, and going around with ceiling
brushes trying to remove every cobweb in all hidden corners due to the
impending House Inspection, the ladies of Kingsley House were ready for
a party at last. And as though it couldn't get better, they were crowned
with first position in the House Inspection. Of course, they tied with
the girls of Slessor House but enough about them already.
On the thirteenth of October, the party was to take off at three. This
was after dining and the dining hall prefects found to their dismay that
both the Kingsley Ladies and 'Dada B' Lugard Boys were found 'posing'
more than ever. Of course, there were the few healthy boys who thought
it wise to have their rightful share of the Sunday afternoon meal. Hey,
they are growing boys with healthy appetites!
At ten minutes to three the Ladies were punctually seated in the common
room looking polished and pretty as usual, waiting for their special guests
and boys to arrive. The special guests were our honoured headmistresses
Mrs. Charlotte Brew-Graves who gracefully begged off with having very
pressing matters to attend to, and Mrs. Flora Mensah who also had to attend
an important engagement. Mr. Ohene-Kena, the present Senior Housemaster
and former housemaster of Lugard house was the only one of our guests
who was able to grace our occasion at the head table with our housemistress,
Mrs. Akolatse.
An hour and some minutes gone by without the Lugard Boys absence, even
the present foreign and local hits were no longer soothing as the Ladies
wondered if the Lugard Boys had 'browned' then. With the welcoming speech
having been made by Naa Tsoo Tetteh and an unanimous decision having been
made on the proceeding of the party, there came a few of the Lugard boys
with a sudden drizzle propelling then onwards. It was then that Mr. Ohene-Kena
decided to use his very spacious vehicle to bring the rest of the boys
to the party.
After drinks, khebabs, mini pizzas, spring rolls and chocolate-vanilla
cakes had been served, the Entertainment monitoresses tried to woo some
of the boys onto the dance floor and a little 'booging' went on but then
some were also too shy to shake their 'thangs' in front of two adults
who also served as chaperons. A Lugard boy managed to slyly spin his way
into a short dance with Mrs. Akolatse.
Having won the House Inspection, the Kingsley Housemistress offered to
open our house to the Lugard boys so maybe they could get some tips on
how to keep a house spic and span. So after the boys had gone through
the dorms and bathroom and toilets and tested the feel of some of the
ladies' beds, everyone headed back to the common room knowing the house
was deserving of the first position.
After the vote of thanks and closing prayer, which was given by the Lugard
House Prefect, Stephen Appiah-Agyei, the boys used the rain as an excuse
to mingle and 'gate' with the Ladies before leaving. A little monitored
'gating' never hurt anyone.
