Watch
Out Don't Follow Them
A Scripture Union Rally dubbed "Watch Out
And Don't Follow Them " was held on the second day of November
this year in Achimota in the Eastern Dining Hall. Among those present
were the patrons from the various schools, their representatives, teachers
and well-wishers. Students from 80 schools in the Accra metropolis were
present.
It started at nine-thirty in the morning with an opening prayer followed
by opening address delivered by Abraham Opoku;
the S.U president of Achimota School. After the prayer all gathered in
the hall were welcomed warmly. A roll call for all schools present was
taken and songs were sung while everyone went round to welcome each other.
The preacher, Mr.Kofi Kakraba of University Of Ghana, Legon, was uhered
in with a song. He was greeted with a standing ovation as he took his
position behind the pulpit.
He took over proceedings so gracefully from that moment onwards. In his
sermon he spoke at length on the issue of peer pressure. As the topic
was a very sensitive one, the congregation was quiet throughout. He warned
the youth against negative peer pressure and cautioned against bad company.
Bad company, he said influences the youth in a way that is detrimental
to their well-being. He also mentioned that it was sheer hypocritism on
the part of the youth to delude themselves into thinking that they can
be with bad company and not do what they do. He pleaded with the youth
to erase this notion from their heads. He also admonished all present
to be circumspect in the choice of friends, to be self controlled and
disciplined. After a thunderous round of applause from the congregation
he took his seat.
The whole room was then filled with music as students and adults alike
danced around the offertory bowl. One student offered to bless the offertory
after it was given and she did it so excellently. This was followed by
an alter call, for sinners to repent and for believers to renew their
faith. However, the response was very discouraging. Nevertheless the preacher
went on to pray for them and ask them to profess their love and commitment
to God.
After the benediction, everyone dispersed to refresh him or herself. All
who attended had a great time. They were happy partly because this was
the first time in Motown. Our premises and environs amazed them. And most
importantly they were happy about he sermon and the new friends they made.
