UPCOMING STARS PROFILE - IRENE LOGAN
|
| Interesting, Reliable,
Enlightened, Nice and Entertaining are the very words, anyone who knows
Irene Logan will describe her with. This is what our upcoming musician told
the worldlink representatives during the interview she granted to them. WLR: Hello Irene, how are you doing? Irene: Good. What about you? WLR: Not bad. WLR: Could you tell us about yourself, perhaps a little family background? Irene: Well, I was born on 16th February, 1984, to Thomas and Tina Amy Logan in Liberia. Both my parents are Liberians. Unfortunately, my dad died when I was 8 months old and my brother also died when I was 10 months old. WLR: Oh I'm sorry, It must have been very hard for you growing up without a dad Irene: Well, my mom was there for me and together we made it through. Also we came to Ghana in 1991, and my mom got re-married in 1996. WLR: That must have made you very happy. Irene: Yes it was the happiest day of my life. My stepfather Mr Charles Tachie Mensah is a very wonderful person WLR: How did you get into singing? Irene: Well, I started singing at an early age of three. WLR: You are kidding. Irene: No joke, you know, I would say singing is a God given talent I inherited from my parents. My mum is a professional singer on tour in Europe, and my Dad was also a singer as well as plays the guitar. WLR: This explains it, because your singing is just lovely. So when did you have your first stage performance? Irene: This was when I was five, at the National Theatre. It was a gospel rock show organised by my church; Christian Action Faith Ministry. We sang 'People need the Lord' WLR: How did you feel ? Irene: Very nervous at first because it was such a large crowd. I made a few mistakes due to this, but my mum being a good singer covered my lapses and encouraged me after the show. WLR: Could you tell us about your educational background? Irene: I went to John Tei Memorial school from class one to four then changed to Englebert for class five then Star Avenue from class six to JSS Three. WLR: Why did you have to change schools so many times? Irene: (Laughs) Let's just say Mother likes changes. WLR: Currently you are in Achimota School. What's your subject combination? Irene: I study music, history and literature. WLR: How many performances have you had? Irene: Uncountable .I sing at weddings, churches, I also sang at Miss Teen Personality 2002 with a couple of friends from my school namely, Salimi Akill, Richie, Fergurson and Selasie Hanson. We called ourselves S-touch. I also sang at my uncle's wedding, where there were important personalities like the ex-president, Flt. Lt. J.J Rawlings, his wife and a few ministers. WLR :How did you feel singing infront of such huge personalities? What song did you sing? Irene: I sang 'my heart will go on', by Celine Dion and I felt very good. I forgot to mention I also did classical Opera singing in my school, introduced by Mr Ken Kafui. I sang 'how beautiful are thy feet' with a piano accompaniment played by Edwin Fergurson. WLR :So have you composed any songs? Irene : Yes, I wrote my first song when I was eight. I named it 'Christ is in control. I also composed 'Mother Dear' for my mum when I was 17 years. My sister, a couple of friends, and myself composed a Fanta song for a competition for which we won first place in the 1st part of the competition and second during the finals. WLR :Wow, all I can say is that you're the bomb.So who really inspires you? Irene :I would say my mum. She's everything from a friend to a sister, and she sings beautifully too. I would say she's my role model. WLR: You sing gospel right? Irene: Yes WLR: If you had the chance to sing anything else apart from gospel, what will that be; and if you had the chance to sing with a star that will that be? Irene: Well, I would sing R&B and I would love to sing with Whitney Houston. WLR: Do you plan on taking your music to a higher level? Irene: Sure, music is definitely going to be my career, but I think I'll do it alongside being a Bilingual secretary. WLR: Do you think you can manage combining the two? Irene: (smiles) Time will tell. WLR: So what is the next step you plan on taking as long as your music is concerned? Irene: Well, actually I'm working on my album right now and my mum will feature in it. It is going to be called you'll get to know when it comes out. WLR: How has music touched your life and the life of others? Irene: I'm not a very open person but I'm able to express myself much better in music. Anytime I'm sad, I sing and I feel better. So I'd say it gives me lots of joy. About the lives of others, I one time sang at a conference centre. I sang, "His eye is on the sparrow" after the show, an Arabian woman came to me crying. She said my song had touched her and had given her hope. I had the loveliest feeling ever. That was when I realised this is what I want to do to touch the lives of everyone irrespective of nationality, tribe or religion. Just to reach out to people and give them hope. WLR: Tell us a little about your social life? Irene: I love reading, partying and writing WLR: Any special guy? Irene: I could say so WLR: Ouch, I guess you just broke the hearts of a thousand young men who have fallen in love with you. What do you stand for and what do you believe in? Irene: I believe in family and true friendship. WLR: Before we leave you, Irene, what would be your wish if you were granted one? Irene: It would have been for my father to be alive and hear me sing. WLR: I believe your father is in heaven smiling down at you proudly telling the angelic hosts above that, "That is my little Rennie." Irene: Thank you. WLR: I'm sure you have become a role model for up coming singers and inspired a lot of people. I'm touched myself. So what will you like to leave us with? Any advice? Irene: Success is not acquired in a day. It takes practice, determination and God to make it. So I just want to tell every one to be steadfast; and surely their goals, whatever they are will be accomplished. WLR: Thank you very much Irene. Irene: You are most welcome. WLR: So there you have it, all about Irene Logan. Watch out world she is coming out with her own album very soon. |
